Moses and the Prophets are the people who wrote the Bible. Instead, Abraham says that the rich man’s brothers should believe who? (Moses and the Prophets.) “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”Ībraham says that he won’t send someone back from Heaven to talk to the rich man’s brothers. “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets let them listen to them.’ What does the rich man want Abraham to do? (He wants Abraham to send someone from Heaven to go tell his brothers about God so that they can believe in God and go to Heaven when they die instead of going to Hell.)ĭo you think Abraham will send someone down from Heaven to talk to the rich man’s brothers? (No, the story says that people have to stay in Heaven or Hell. “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. Why do you think the rich man went to Hell? (Because He didn’t believe in God or do the right things that God wanted him to do, like helping the poor man, Lazarus.) Where did the rich man go when he died? (Hell.) So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’” In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side.
